How to find a pet product manufacturer in China

Pet products span at least four unrelated manufacturing worlds: textiles, injection moulding, woodworking and electronics. A "pet product factory" that claims all four is a trading company. That is not automatically bad, but you should know which one you are talking to.

Step 1 — Decide which factory type you need

• Leashes, harnesses, beds → textile and webbing shops, mostly Guangdong and Zhejiang
• Bowls, litter boxes, toys → injection moulding, Dongguan and Taizhou
• Cat trees, crates, furniture → woodworking, Foshan
• Cameras, feeders, trackers → electronics, Shenzhen

Pick one. A supplier who is genuinely good at webbing is not going to be good at electronics.

Step 2 — Work out your real MOQ before you ask

Factories quote minimums per colourway and per size, not per order. A product with three colours and two sizes at "500 MOQ" is a 3,000-unit commitment.

Know your number before the first email. It changes which factories will even reply.

Step 3 — Ask the three questions that filter fast

1. What is your minimum for this exact spec, in the colours I listed?
2. What is your current queue, in days, before production starts?
3. Which certifications do you hold today, with issue dates?

A factory that answers all three specifically is worth a sample order. One that answers in brochure language is worth skipping.

Step 4 — Do not skip the visit

Photos are staged, video calls are steered and audit reports are two years old. Someone has to walk the floor.

Step 5 — Start smaller than feels efficient

Your first order exists to test the factory, not to make money. Order the minimum they will accept, inspect it properly, and treat the unit economics as tuition.
